An excellent chair and panel made a great success of the Birmingham City Centre Neighbourhood Forum’s Question Time style event this evening. We would like to thank them all very much for coming along to the Town Hall and making this such an interesting debate!

We hope you have been enjoying Artsfest 2009 this weekend.
You can see some more of my Saturday night concert and firework photos here. I enjoyed the evening, but some people were complaining that the music wasn’t popular enough, or upbeat enough, for such a varied public audience. Why not tell us about your experiences, or link to show people your photos or videos of the event.

Birmingham City Centre Floral Trail Mini - K.Caine
I am delighted to report that the Birmingham City Centre Floral Trail was awarded GOLD in the Urban Community category at the Heart of England in Bloom Ceremony.
Congratulations to everyone involved, helping to improve Birmingham’s image!
Next we wait to see how Birmingham City Centre will do at the Royal Horticultural Society “Britain in Bloom” Awards on 23rd September……..

Well, while it didn’t quite look like a normal Saturday – with large numbers of police and what seemed to be pretty low numbers of shoppers – I didn’t see much of a problem when I was in the city centre this afternoon.
The main irritation was that New Street was blocked by two lines of police with demonstrators between, causing residents and shoppers to have to divert.
I see police have made arrests though – mainly 20+ people on a bus. When I left the shopping area about 5:30 they seemed intent on dispersal.
Did any residents have major problems we should know about? Especially if it points up any idea for something different and better the police could do on a similar occasion in future? If so please let us know!
