Midland Metro Extension Gets Government Funding

The Department for Transport has today announced official approval for funding the Metro Extension between Snow Hill  and New Street stations.

It is now expected that  the government will provide £82 million of the estimated total cost of £127 million. Further details of the approval have yet to emerge. The rest of the funding will come from  Centro,  Birmingham City Council and councils within the Black Country.

The extension should be operational in 2014.
