International Food Fair opens in Central Birmingham

Birmingham Food Fair 2011Birmingham City Centre’s answer to the BBC Good Food Show (next week) is this 140 stall open air celebration of snacking out and luxurious continental food to take home and spoil yourself with in front of the television or a good book….

It runs until Sunday 19 June from 10am to 9pm each day, and is situated in Chamberlain and Victoria Squares and along New Street.

In the two squares you will find snacking stalls of all sorts, some home grown (from the City’s varied ethinic mix) and some from the European Continent. Victoria Square has beer tents and outdoor seating for when the sun shines to enjoy your snack and drink your German Beer and wine. Two bandstands will provide music, but I know not when….couldn’t find a program! But you can find the entertainment programme for the Food Fair (12:30 to 2pm) here on the official Council site.

Down New Street are the take home food stalls shown in the photo gallery below. As with most markets on the Continent the food is displayed in an appetite stimulating way.

I went around the Fair over lunch time when the sun was shining and the atmosphere was celebratory, what the British are really good at!

Recommended, if you want a change from the usual fast food, somewhere with a lively and different atmosphere to have a drink, and to take home some genuine continental delicatessen food! Then, it’s well worth a visit!
