Lib Dem conference – access restrictions

The Liberal Democrat Party Conference will be held at the ICC in Birmingham from 17th to 21st September with an estimated 8,000 delegates, along with large numbers of media, expected to attend.
There are some temporary access restrictions which we all need to be aware of.

The mall through the ICC will be closed to the public throughout the conference. The area around the building, including Centenary Square, the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the section of Broad Street closest to Paradise Forum will see some changes to access for traffic. The map below shows the temporary changes in more detail.

The vehicle restrictions will start from Sep 15.

During the Conference (7am Saturday 17th September 2011 to 5am Thursday 22nd September 2011) Broad Street (Gas Street to Paradise Circus), Bridge Street (near to the Hyatt Regency Hotel) and Cambridge Street (Brindley Drive to Civic Close) will be pedestrian access only. Vehicle access for residents to Civic Close will be via King Edwards Road only.

All the bars, restaurants and other venues along Broad Street and in Brindleyplace will be open. The ICC itself will be closed to the general public from Thursday 15th September, re-opening Thursday 22nd September at 7am. This means that the public will not be able to access Symphony Hall, Symphony Hall Box Office, Cafe Vite or Castle Galleries during this time.
However I am assured that any concerts arranged in Symphony Hall will be going ahead and you gain access from the Centenary Square entrance by showing your tickets.
