Road Restrictions in City Centre from 7 September

Hurst StreetTo ease the traffic volume around Grand Central during its opening the following “temporary” road restrictions will be introduced from Monday 7 September as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

*Refer to the Google map below for a view of roads involved.

1. Hurst Street will be closed between Smallbrook Queensway and Thorp Street.
This is the First Phase of a programme to remove through traffic from Ladywell Walk with the intention of eventually creating a new public square.
This should ease pressure on Holloway Circus from the east (Bullring area) and remove through traffic up Hill Street passed John Lewis/Grand Central main entrance (see images below).
It will also lessen traffic along Smallbrook Queensway to ease congestion at Holloway Circus.

2. In Digbeth Bradford Street will be closed between Barford Street and Moat Lane.
It’s intended to ease pressure on the congested junction between Moat Lane and Digbeth which currently inhibits public transport to the city centre.

The measures will continue into 2016.

Below is Hill Street on 5 September 2015 – a lot of work needed to present a tidy view on opening day 24 September!
