The overnight trials during the night of this Saturday and Sunday, 23/24 April, seem to have been successful. So, a start of service down to New Street Station is foreseen to start on Monday 22 May.
The tram route extension to Bull Street was opened in December last year.
But, the extension to Stephenson Street outside the north-west entrance to New Street station was delayed pending trials to show that electrical installations and tram movements did not interfere with the main line train systems carried out last weekend.
This appears to be the case from the trials but a review has, of course, now commenced,
If no problems emerge driver training over the streets will commence and the service started on 22 May.
Looking further ahead, some of the current Broad Street subterranean road works are for the Metro extension to Centenary Square due to open in 2019.
