Summer Holiday Road Works Programme

Reduced traffic flows over the school summer holidays give an opportunity to carry out some essential repairs and improvements while keeping disruption to a minimum.

Key works in the next week:
 •      This weekend, Highways England will be effecting a full closure of the M6 junction 6 and the A38(M) Aston Expressway from 8pm on Friday 29 July to 6am on Monday 1 August. Diversions will be in place.
Also this weekend, essential maintenance to Midland Metro means services will terminate at the Snow Hill stop on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July.
 •      Small Heath Bridge remains closed to traffic (access will be maintained for cyclists and pedestrians).
 •      Works continue at Paradise with specific road and pedestrian diversions in place.    •      •       •      Overnight closures on Fri 29, Sat 30 and Sun 31 July of A45 Coventry Road westbound between Bickenhill Road and M42 J6 (in Solihull) to allow works to replace the road-over-rail bridge.

Please note there are no closures of the St Chad’s and Queensway tunnels planned for the next 7 days. Overnight weekday closures will recommence on Monday 8 August.

Full details are available at www.birmingham.gov.uk/connected.

While these projects have been scheduled to minimise disruption and keep the city centre open for business, we are advising everyone to plan ahead for travel and use public transport, walk or cycle whenever possible.
Details of fantastic bus, train and tram special summer holiday ticket offers together with journey planning are available at www.networkwestmidlands.com.

You can also earn rewards for walking, cycling or using public transport by using the BetterPoints rewards app – it’s free and easy to join. Go to www.betterpoints.uk for more information.

Delays on A38M out of city and M6 northbound J5-7

Highways England are advising of delays on A38(M) Aston Expressway out of city and on the northbound M6 J5-7. These delays are also having some knock-on effect on traffic in Birmingham city centre and on the A34 approaching M6 J7 from the south. If you are able to plan your route to avoid these sections of road or to use public transport instead, you are advised to do so.

The A38(M) out of city is reduced to 2 lanes over the summer to allow for essential waterproofing work on the M6 J6 (visit http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/connected for more information).

With Best Wishes,
The Birmingham Connected Team
