The Brasshouse Language Centre has moved from a rather run down building just off Broad Street and has taken over the entire first floor of the Library of Birmingham. There are 25 lecture rooms, a small meeting area and a smart Reception desk offering information and enrolling students.
With immigration at a peak the centre assumes greater importance in helping new citizens as well as foreign students learn English quickly. There also courses in 30 different languages and other services such as translation.
Due to this move the LoB has been able to extend its hours for some services. The main library hours remain at:
11:00am – 7:00pm Monday and Tuesday
11:00am – 5:00pm Wednesday to Saturday
However, the ground floor has longer hours of:
9:00am – 9:00pm Monday to Saturday
providing Express Self Service to ground floor books and some computer facilities.
Access to the language centre on the first floor is also available during these hours.
Below is a gallery of photos taken inside the language centre.
