Summer at Winterbourne Gardens

The wet and sunny Summer so far has done wonders for our “public” parks and gardens. During August the Summer blooms are splendid.

I visited Winterbourne Gardens in Edgbaston on Monday and was amazed at the variety of greenery and the “I’m great look at me posture” of the many flowers!

If you haven’t yet, I would recommend a visit for a light lunch, nothing too elaborate but light for Summer and/or afternoon tea on the terrace at the rear of the splendid house, built in 1903 for John and Margaret Nettlefold, of Guest, Keen & Nettlefold, one of the major Birmingham companies of the 20^th century.

If you have been there before you will be delighted I’m sure by the gardens now. The variety of rich green colour tones and the exceptional beauty of the various blooms displaying themselves boldly and attracting many precious bees.

Have a look before at my Gallery of photos taken on my visit so as to build your enthusiasm for a visit but do go and see the real thing and relax there. You’ll find the peace and quiet a refreshing relief from the excitement of the children enjoying their Summer holidays elsewhere.
