Walkways from 11 Nov: A Race Against Time

On Saturday 11 November at 7am, Fletchers Walk will be closed for demolition. A new walkway along the eventual Centenary Way line should open at 6am. Will these two activities sync?

Looking at the construction site today, I counted a dozen or so contractors working on the walkway. I am reliably informed (by CCNF Member David Foster) that the construction team are working nights to complete the walkway.

Obviously there will be high barrier hoardings to mark and protect the walkway and the start of these were evident from the Centenary Square end today.

I observed the team hand finishing large areas of concrete to form the walkway and others also busily engaged in the route.

At the moment it is a building site!

Let’s hope they meet the deadlines on Saturday!

Below are  my photos of the scene today at around 3pm. Click a photo to view an enlarged gallery.

Given the amount of publicity the developer has given, any delay now would be a massive blow to their credibility. So perhaps it really will happen on time?!
But the Centenary Way route will expose us all to the appalling racket from the Copthorne Hotel’s air conditioning kit once again!! When will it be shut down?
