Paradise Needs £50m To Continue Development!!

Oh Dear! Birmingham City Centre’s main, radical redevelopment has run into financial trouble.

On the face of it this is very tragic news for Birmingham City Centre, and the Mayor Andy Street, and senior council elected officers. They have been working so hard to promote investment in the city by both home and foreign companies and states and have undoubtedly used Paradise as a major selling point.

Birmingham Live has published a report stating that:

The ambitious Paradise development in Birmingham city centre has run out of money and needs £50m to continue, it has been revealed. On the face of it this is very tragic news for Birmingham City Centre, and the Mayor Andy Street, and senior council elected officers. They have been working so hard to promote investment in the city by both home and foreign companies and states and would have undoubtedly used Paradise as a selling point.

The [City’s] Audit committee was told yesterday (Tuesday, November 20) that the overspends were inevitable but it was conceded there had been a significant breakdown in communication between builders, the city council and the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The project is now in limbo with no budget currently available to deliver Phase 2.”

Let’s hope and indeed challenge the developers and people in charge of our city to now work hard to find a solution to complete Paradise.
