A Midland Metro Alliance spokesperson has issued the statement below about the temporary pause of construction across all sites. This affects the previously announced closure of Broad Street on 23 March.
“The Midland Metro Alliance, together with local authority partners and Transport for West Midlands, is committed to delivering Metro extensions across Birmingham and the Black Country as part of our collective aim to improve public transport in the region.
“Following the government’s latest announcement on 23 March 2020, with an abundance of caution, the safety of our team and the public in mind, a decision has been made to temporarily pause construction activities directly being undertaken by the Midland Metro Alliance across all of our sites. Work will be taking place over the next 48 hours to demobilise. Wider project activities, including detailed design, will continue as scheduled to maintain project momentum.
“This is a challenging time for all and we will continue to follow official advice accordingly. Activities will resume on our sites as soon as we are able to do so.”
