Grand Central & New Street Station – Ready in time?

With New Street Station scheduled to be opened on 20 September and the Grand Central shopping complex on 24 September, it appears to be a race against time.

Will the developers win or will the  National and International Press be confronted with unfinished cladding to the outside and untidy roadworks providing an unsightly setting?

Well, the developers and project managers are confident that the openings will take place on the dates promised. But will the complex be finished on the inside but not on the outside?

I wandered around the outside of the site today and took some photos as shown below.

Has anyone any thoughts on how finished it  is likely to be?

Does anyone have any views on the outside appearance of the complex?

If you have any opinions please leave a comment below.

I cannot believe that all building work will have finished by September 24th.
Aside from the street works for the Metro, which will not be finished until November(if then?), I expect that the station and store interiors will be functioning but with periodic interruptions over the coming months for ‘upgrades’ or whatever will be current euphemism.
John Lewis cannot allow such a high-profile opening to be tarnished by visibly unfinished work.
